I kind of hate collages. I can't seem to make one that does anything beyond just the obvious joke of putting a couple of incongruous things together, which just feels meaningless and therefore a waste of time after a while. But I've probably made hundreds of collages and will probably make hundreds more because sometimes they're kind of funny and because I have SO MANY collage materials. I dunno.
20. Wanted to draw a dream-generating assembly line but somehow drew a duck bill, so now it's a duck employed by the dream industry.
21. I couldn't think of anything I felt guilty about, so I drew this from my cat's pov. I think he feels guilty because he hops away really fast if he hears us coming.
22. For reference:
Easter Egg (at the end) is actually my favorite, but I didn't want to draw a spoiler on the off chance that everyone hasn't seen this cartoon and is looking forward to watching it. The Bad Egg, of course, is also amazing. I think about this cartoon A LOT. Also, I think this might be the best drawing I've ever done of anything.
23. For reference:
I think about this movie constantly. Fay Ray actually plays 3 roles, but Mrs. Hardly is a standout.
8. I spent basically all summer drawing scenes from movies for this zine, so it is important for my mental health to take a break and NOT do this one.
9. We always call our cats twins. They are not related in any way, but they do enjoy sitting in exactly the same position - "twinning" - and both have black tails and triangle ears.
5. I'm sure I had some "I'm the favorite because I'm beloved and you're an old fort" 'tude after this baby-name investigation. It was a program at the library where everyone was making buttons with their names + meanings, and my sister was super dejected afterward. But she's actually named after someone, while I'm just named a name my parents liked, so I think she got over it with some explanation from our mom.
6. I helped to organize this year's SF Zine Fest and it involved me carrying a lot of stuff.
7. What idiot thought frog-shark would be the best name for a FRORCA? I guess it's because I was thinking of it as a shark instead of a whale, but what a missed opportunity.
I've been drawing these mostly on time, but getting them into the internet is hard for me.
I totally have #ferrantefever and am so excited to read #4 of her Neapolitan Novels, but this series has some of the worst cover designs I've ever seen. Here are the Europa Editions covers (the ones available in the US) :
This writer suggests it's possible they're good designs if they're "deeply ironic" but a deeply ironic book cover design seems like bad design in principle.
Anyway here's my hastily rendered version of My Brilliant Friend, which I still think is better than the Europa Editions version and I only spent like 15 minutes on it.
I was trying to think of what I'd want to do with an imaginary friend that I don't already do with my real friends, and realized I basically want a personal assistant to scan things for me.
